Samenvatting

Based on the surface energy theory, surface energy parameters of two kinds of asphalt and four kinds of aggregate were obtained by a static contact angle method, and the adhesive work and the exfoliated work of different asphalt-aggregate systems were calculated to determine whether the adhesion between different asphalt-aggregate systems was good or not. Meanwhile, a freeze-thaw splitting test was used for verification. The results suggest that in a modified asphalt-limestone system, it has the highest value of adhesive work and the lowest exfoliated work. As for the asphalt-granite system, the results are the opposite compared to the asphalt-limestone system. In addition, the adhesion between different asphalt-aggregate systems characterized by the exfoliated work is consistent with the results of the freeze-thaw splitting test; therefore, exfoliated work can characterize the adhesion between different asphalt-aggregate systems more intuitively and quantitatively.
