Samenvatting

Part of VFO-SLOT symposium: Differences in teachers learning conceptions and teaching approaches:
how are they related to personal and contextual factors?

Former research has indicated that personal and contextual factors have an impact upon teachers learning conceptions and teaching approaches. However questions raise about which personal and contextual factors have a significant impact upon these conceptions and approaches as well as the size of the effects. In this symposium a theoretical framework of influencing factors is presented. Next, three researchers present empirical results of found impact of personal and contextual factors on learning conceptions and/or teaching approaches in a variety of contexts ranging from secondary to higher education. A discussant will critically reflect upon the value of the presented empirical studies and will sketch implications for future research.
