title = "The international development of wushu: past, present and future.",
abstract = "The international development of wushu is often illustrated by a number of events and initiatives that took place over the last two decades, including (among others) the founding of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) in 1990, the official recognition of IWUF by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2002 and, more recently, the decision made in 2005 by the IOC to organise a wushu competition during the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and the fact that wushu will be an invitational event during the World Games in Chinese Taipei in 2009. Undoubtedly, all of these events have a huge impact on the development of wushu as an international sport, but as the present paper will discuss, the dissemination of wushu involves a wider perspective, to be situated in a globalisation process.",
