Samenvatting
Our daily lifestyles and economy requires freight. Information on the characteristics of freight, on the locations of production and consumption of freight and its transport are by consequence of a crucial importance for multiple decision makers both in public and private sector. We will present the current developments of an agent-based freight generation model for the Belgian territory, called TRABAM. Based on gathered data on transport flows and data on population density and business establishments, produced and consumed freight volumes were generated by using a generalized linear regression analysis with log link. By applying a conditional probability function an origin-destination matrix between approximately 5000 traffic analysis zones was calculated. The entire analysis is to our knowledge unique as modelled volumes and flows can be distinguished by commodity types and loading unit, and this at very detailed geographical scale.
