Samenvatting

One decade has passed since the introduction of commercial ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC) technology and columns packed with sub-2-μm particles, which has led to significant improvements in separation efficiency and sample throughput. This article outlines fundamental and practical aspects of UHPLC. The gain in kinetic performance that can be achieved using state-of-the-art columns at ultra-high-pressure operation is discussed and advances in column technology and system design are highlighted. Finally, HPLC to UHPLC method transfer is discussed and progress in two-dimensional ultra-high-pressure LC is highlighted.
