Analyzing the Relationship of Dynamic Capabilities with Competitive Advantage in the Port of Antwerp.

Scriptie/Masterproef: Master's Thesis

Samenvatting

This study aims to empirically analyze the relationship between dynamic capabilities of
the Antwerp seaport cluster with its competitive advantage compared to its main competitors in the Hamburg-Le Havre range. The study follows a cross-sectional survey design. A structured questionnaire was utilized to gather data on dynamic capabilities and competitive advantage of the Antwerp port cluster. The competitive advantage part of this study is built on the results of Haezendonck, van den Broeck, and Jans (2011) and the complementary research of Haezendonck and Langenus (2019) on recognizing the competitive advantage for the Antwerp seaport based on the extended diamond framework of competitive advantage. Three hypotheses
were proposed suggesting that each component of dynamic capabilities of the Antwerp seaport cluster positively correlate with the competitive advantage of the port. Nevertheless, the result of the empirical research rejected our hypothesis indicating that dynamic capabilities of the Antwerp port cluster do not affect its competitive advantage.
