Samenvatting
We confirmed the presence of a positive, fair correlation between BSS score and fecal moisture content. No evidence was found to support the presence of (increased) gastrointestinal inflammation in MS phenotypes and/or due to MS treatments. Nor were we able to link fecal calprotectin levels to future disease progression. The limited study size, resulting in less than 10 participants for certain study groups but also the absence of information regardingsubclinical disease activity and the absence on information regarding the patients enterotype are important limitations. Repeating this research, taking in account the present limitations concerning study size, information concerning subclinical disease activity and enterotyping, would be useful for examining the presence of (increased) gastrointestinal inflammation in multiple sclerosis.
