The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of the CYBERLEGs++ (CLs++) prosthesis in people with a transfemoral amputation (TFA).
Six healthy participants with a TFA performed four tasks while psychophysiological measurements were gathered. A familiarization trial preceded two experimental tri-als. During the first experiment the current prosthesis was used and during the sec-ond experiment the novel prosthesis. The four tasks were a stair climbing test (SCT), chair standing test (CST), timed-up and go test (TUG) and a six-minute walk test (6MWT). Measurements were collected using a visual analogue scale for comforta-bility and fatigue, the rating of perceived exertion scale, a heart rate monitor, and a portable ergospirometric device.
With the CLs++ prosthesis, significantly less comfort was observed during the SCT and TUG compared to their current prosthesis (5.87 ± 1.42 vs. 7.93 ± 1.03, p = 0.028 and 7.55 ± 0.88 vs. 8.20 ± 1.03, p = 0.045; respectively), and significantly more fa-tigue during the SCT (4.10 ± 1.92 vs. 2.08 ± 1.46, p = 0.046). The duration of the TUG and SCT were significantly slower with the CLs++ compared to their current prosthesis (increase of 154.50 ± 85.26% vs. 40.00 ± 24.68%, respectively, p = 0.028).
Small significant differences were found between the two experimental trials. This emphasizes that the CLs++ prosthesis is still in development and requires further improvement.
