Wave distortion on acoustic emission waveforms: case study plate specimens

Samenvatting

This master thesis will investigate the wave distortion on acoustic emission waveforms, by performing a case study on plate specimens. It will more specifically focus on the bending and tensile behavior of 8-layer TRC (textile reinforced cement) plate specimens; beams as well as circular plates. Cracking mechanisms (tensile cracking versus shear cracking) will be investigated and the evolution of parameters with the distance will be looked at. The main goal will be to set up a boundary zone between the tensile cracking zone and the shear cracking zone, this for different distances.
There will be started with a general overview of acoustic emission and the used TRC material. After which the experimental results will be discussed and conclusions will be drawn.
